5 WAYS I USE ESSENTIAL OILS DAILY
Essential oils are becoming more and more popular and main stream. I personally have been using them for several years now, on myself and on my family. People are often curious how to use them regularly and how they can change up their own routine to add in these natural ingredients.
Here are the 5 ways I use essential oils daily:
Our household loves to diffuse lemon oil throughout the day; it’s invigorating and uplifting. I add 10-15 drops of lemon essential oil to many of our cleaning products. It is a great disinfectant and smells amazing. I also enjoy flavored water but so many products out there have tons of sugar and aren’t good for our bodies. Instead, I add lemon and other citrus oils to my water and it has the added benefit of breaking down toxins out of the body. Bonus!
IMPORTANT: Put all citrus oils in glass, ceramic or aluminum containers since they breakdown in-organic material, such as plastic, quickly.
I like to start my day on a good note so I add a drop or two of balance to the back of my neck and soles of my feet. Balance is very grounding and calming to the nervous system. When dealing with a hectic day and a crazy kid, this is my savior! You can also add this to the diffuser near the end of the day to wind down and calm the household.
During the day we get tired and need a healthy pick me up. I carry peppermint oil in my purse so when I am feeling tired during the day I place a drop or two on my temples and sometimes I take a drop on my tongue for that extra kick, plus it’s a great breath freshener! Peppermint is also great for headaches, and I will put a drop on the back of my neck and another on my temples as soon as I feel a headache coming on.
IMPORTANT: Be cautious when using peppermint as some people find it to be too potent, in which case I would dilute the essential oil with some carrier oil, such as fractionated coconut oil, before applying to the skin.
This is my absolute favourite oil! It smells amazing and has so many uses and benefits. I add frankincense to my face cream (morning and night) because it is great at promoting cell regeneration (bye, wrinkles!) and is calming to the skin. I also make my own body butter and love adding frankincense to help promote skin elasticity, help with dry skin and overall skin health…and remember it smells amazing!
Lavender is another great essential oil to diffuse in the house. It has been known to enhance moods, help reduce the effects of stress and promote sleep. Use this one at night time by adding a few drops to the bathtub and a few on the soles of your feet. You can also add lavender essential to your shampoo and conditioner as it’s said to help stimulate hair growth. Lastly, you can also add lavender to your temples and back of the neck when you feel a headache coming on; peppermint and lavender are a great combo for this!
These are only a few uses of my favourite five essential oils but this gives you a good idea on how you might be able to incorporate these into your own daily routine. There might even be some changes you want to make in your life!
It is important to note that not all essential oils are made equal, and some oils are low quality. I use DoTERRA essential oils and they are great at providing all the testing they do on each bottle of oil. I recommend checking out DoTERRA’s “Source To You” for more information on their product testing.
Lastly, please always educate yourself on the essential oils you are using. Some oils are not safe directly on the skin, especially if using on small children. If you have any questions let me know, I would love to help you learn more about using essential oils!
